Great Resource: BPN (Berkeley Parents Network)

For twenty years the Berkeley Parents Network has been emailing newsletters filled with questions and advice to thousands of parents. For free! You can find everything from advice on ADHD to piano teachers to preschools to Halloween parades…it’s all there. And, before you email in your questions check their archives; there is tons if information in the archives.

Being an East Bay Momma on a budget I appreciate the events listings in the newsletters because they often list free events. Here are a few noteworthy ones from this week’s newsletter:

Sep 29: Cal Performances Fall Free for All! 10:30am-6pm (free)
Cal Performances on the UC Berkeley campus invites families to a full day of free music, dance
and theater performances as well as interactive events held throughout the UCB Campus. Create
shadow puppets and stage a play, explore a musical menagerie at the instrument petting zoo,
and experience world-class performances by a diverse range of artists like ODC Dance,
Crosspulse, the Marcus Shelby Quintet, Los Cenzontles, Theatre of Yugen, La Tania Baile
Flamenco, Pacific Boychoir Academy, La Danse du Cleves, the Venezuelan Music Project and many
more. Win tickets to Cal Performances shows. Celebrate the richness and power of the
performing arts at this extraordinary event for audiences of all ages!

Oct 06: Rockridge Out and About (free)
North Oakland’s famed Rockridge neighborhood hosts Rockridge Out and About. The festivities
run 12-6pm on College Avenue between Alcatraz and Kales.

Sponsored by the Rockridge District Association, the event will feature gourmet food and drink
from local restaurants and food trucks, live music, wellness activities, kids’ activities,
and a chef stage.

The event will truly be fun and festive for the entire family. Children will have a blast with
a Claremont Middle School kid’s stage, Climbing Wall, face-painting, pumpkin carving, bicycle
stunts, Berkeley chess club and hula hooping.

Oct 24: Oakland East Bay Symphony’s Young People’s Concert (free)
Students ages K thru 5th grade are invited to attend the FREE annual Young People’s Concerts
performed by conductor Michael Morgan and members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony. This year
the theme is ”We’ve Got Rhythm”. Please visit the web-site if you are interested in
